Chumpon

After about 5 train-hours south of Hua Hin you reach the small town of Chumpon.
There is nothing of particular interest, except the pier for the nightboat to Ko Tao, beautifully located at a venetian like canal, and the exceptionally good seafood restaurants.
When you arrive early in the evening, about 8:30pm, you have all the time in the world to lay a solid substructure into your stomach, before you take a taxi to Ko Tao pier, with all that boozing coming up.
The boat leaves at midnight. So, upon arrival at the train staion, deposit your luggage, (5 baht a piece), and walk straight down the broad road into the village.
Just over the next crossing you find countless numbers of foodstalls and restaurants, where you can dine real Thai style ahan taleh (seafood), and also find some ice cold beers.

Best place to get a solid buzz is the Ko Tao pier.
The slow-boat goes somewhat after midnight, and there is a good bar for the passangers where you can supply yourself with beverages on the boat.
While most of the water-bottle sucking backpackers enter the boat to occupy the "best" places, you always find a group of Thai fishermen and other passengers for some ice cold beers.
On the boat they only supply you with water, so it makes sence to buy a quart (nueng baen) of Mekong or Sang Tip.
When you are realy smart, you keeep your travel hamock at hand, you will always find a plank where you can hang it up.
