Thailand
The Thaksin government just decided how the Thai night entertainment has to commit suicide: with SLEEPING PILLS!
Date: APRIL 1, 2004

If anybody can understand how this law will help to change Thailands image being the "brothel of the world" let us know. Now anybody who is out to have a decent drink after midnight is FORCED to go to so called entertainment zones, instead of to visit eg. Prah Atit, were over the last years some decent hangouts were established where Thai women could go to meet friends without being bothered of being prostitutes. This is an attack against the economical and political arising middle class which wants to have its right to party in decent places, but can not anymore. They are forced to visit special declared "zones", wich opens up the gate for bribery and pay offs under the table.
As much it is understandable that Thaksin wants to change Thailands image in the world,
Prohibition is not the way to do. They should have a look eg. on Berlin/Germany wich abolished all closing times more than 50 years ago, with the effect that everybody has the choice to go out when and where at any time.
It's just a stubborn decision.
Here it is, governments new brainchild
